Property Damage Claim Tips
If you’re dealing with a property damage claim, there are two key steps you can take to protect your right to a swift and fair settlement:
- Prompt Notification: Your insurance company requires you to notify them of a claim within days of the loss, whether this is a first-party claim for property damage or a liability claim that may be brought by a third party. It’s better to be safe than sorry. If you believe you have a loss, call your insurance company or your insurance agent and let them know about the loss. Give them a brief description of the loss you believe you have incurred. They will give you a claim number that you will need.
- Submit Documentation: Your insurance company will require you to submit photos of the damages (even photos from your phone are good enough), any proof of persons you hired to stop the damages or assist you (such as a plumber or other professional), estimates for complete repairs, and payments you may have made for any repairs. All documents and records in support of your claim should be kept in one place to provide to us to successfully get full reimbursement for your loss.
